No matter what a person’s background or beliefs, everyone agrees on what characteristics they want to see in a business: honesty, competence, fair dealing, personal attention and more.
There is also universal agreement with the biblical injunction, “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you . . .” It is easy to see how businesses who try their best to apply that “golden rule” are appreciated by their customers and their employees.
That is just one of dozens of examples of biblical principles that underlie all good business practices. Many people may not have heard of those principles or thought about how they have helped shape the laws, regulations, economic system and market operations that have created the remarkable business opportunities we enjoy.
The Halas Business Program at Tarkio Technology Institute offers a curriculum and personal coaching that combines biblical principles with the best-known business practices to prepare their students to succeed in starting, growing, or acquiring a business. The program is open to everyone from high school seniors to senior citizens.
Halas students – with any belief or background – get in-depth instruction in finance, marketing, operations, law, innovation, personnel management and much more over two semesters. Each 15-week semester is made up of three hour evening classes that meet three times each week. The curriculum, which has been developed and taught over more than 14 years uses a layered approach to first introduce topics and then return to them in increasing detail and application. Another unique aspect of the program is the emphasis on helping students develop, test, and refine their individual business plans.
Lane Seymour, Halas director, said, “Our goal is not just teaching the best business knowledge, ethics, and skills we can but to see great businesses created as a result. Our vision is to see the students’ vision come to life.”
Enrollment is now open for classes starting in January and scholarships are available where needed.
