The Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) board met October 11, 2023. Present were: Lori Seymour, Craig Corken, Mary Ann Hull, Eryn Stepp, Jeff Meyer, and W.C. Farmer, board members; Monica Bailey, director; and Carol Clark, administrative assistant.
The meeting was called to order by Lori Seymour.
The August meeting minutes were approved.
The August and September financials were approved as presented.
Director Report
Bailey is chair of Northwest Roundtable of Economic Developers this year. The group met with the northeast group for the annual Upstate Missouri meeting in August. Several good discussions were held, including one on workforce housing needs and legislation that could be proposed to address this issue.
Bailey is also on the board of directors for Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation and helped host the resource team meeting at Tarkio Tech in August.
The annual meeting held September 13 at the Fairfax R-3 School was attended by 70 people.
Careers on Wheels was scheduled for October 12 at the Rock Port City Park, with 12 businesses currently planning to attend.
Atchison County Artisans Makers Market will be Saturday, November 4, at the Velma Houts Fair Building. ACDC helps with advertising and set-up for this event.
The Youth Professionalism Workshop will be held Thursday, November 9, at the TAC.
#ShopAC is happening on Thursday, November 16. Participating businesses must stay open until 8:00 p.m. that Thursday. Businesses also have the option of accepting passports on Friday, November 17, until 5:00 p.m.
New Business
The group reviewed a nonprofit support request for a project that does not clearly fall under the scope of ACDC’s economic/community development goals for the Community Enhancement Fund. Bailey will be in touch with the organization.
The sales tax that funds ACDC efforts will expire in June 2025. Due to the timing of elections, this tax renewal will be on the ballot in April 2024.
Bailey asked the group to review the ACDC website to determine if any major components should be added or changed.
