The Rock Port Blue Jays took on Platte Valley for Senior Night in their final game of the regular season. Platte Valley came into the contest with a 7 and 1 record with their only loss coming from South Holt.
Platte Vally would receive the ball to start the game. With the return to mid-field, Platte Valley would move the ball down in five plays to find the end zone.
Rock Port would waste no time as they received a short kick at mid-field. Three plays later, quarterback Cade Makings would hit receiver Corbyn Jakub on a go route and with a little help blocking, Jakub would find the end zone, along with catching a pass for the two point conversion. This gave Rock Port the lead, 8 to 6.
Platte Valley would start the next drive on their own 33 yard line. Six plays later, they would find the end zone, giving Platte Valley back the lead 8-12. The next kick off, Brock Holmes would return the ball to the Platte Valley 36 yard line, giving the Jays great field position. The Jays would move the ball with passes to Jack Meyerkorth and a big gain to Corbyn Jakub, but Dakota Evans would finish off the drive with a seven yard run and his two point conversion was good, giving the Jays a 16-12 lead with 3:17 left in the first quarter.
Platte Valley wasted no time answering back on a long pass and run for six points. Their two point conversion was good, giving them the lead back 16-20. The Jays would go on to score two more times before halftime with a pass from Makings to Jakub and a quarterback keeper by Makings. The halftime score was 28-36 with Platte Valley up by one touchdown.
In the second half, both teams made adjustments and Rock Port was only able to find the end zone two more times – once in the third quarter on a long pass from Cade Makings to Corbyn Jakub and once in the fourth quarter on a wildcat formation where Jakub went straight up the middle.
The final score was 40-56 Platte Valley. The Jays would end the regular season with a 3 and 6 record. The Jays will start District 6 play-off action on Friday night when they host the Mound City Panthers. Best of luck!
