• Glen Hunter and Merlyn Buck have enlisted in the United States Navy and have gone to Kansas City for assignment. A St. Joseph News-Press item described the Tarkio boys, who have been buddies for years. Glen was a senior in Tarkio High School and Merlyn graduated from THS in May.
• J. E. Voorhees has resigned his position as projectionist at the Tarkio Theater in order to devote full time to his duties at the Don Harrison service station. Bob Lindsay, a Tarkio College student, is the new operator at the theater.
• Three hundred people packed Tarkio’s new American Legion Building to hear Murray E. Thompson, Republican candidate for governor, give an address Friday of last week.
• A fire call went out at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hardy two and one half-miles north on Highway 59 at the former Prather farm. Mrs. Hardy had gone to get her husband from the field and during her absence, a fire from a coal oil lamp flared up. The Hardys’ 10-year-old daughter Ruth attempted to extinguish the blaze, but when she was not successful, she grabbed her six-week-old sibling, as well as her brother, John, and ran out of the house.
November 1, 1973
• Nearly 600 people attended the dedication of the $335,000 project of additions to the elementary and high school buildings Sunday. Larry Freeman, president of the Citizen’s Commission, presented the speaker, Dr. Arthur Mallory, Commissioner of Education for the State, with a gift. Also in attendance was John Russell, State Supervisor of Education.
• Dr. Bruce Thielemann, pastor of the 2,500 member Glendale Presbyterian Church of Glendale, California, will be the featured speaker for the fourth annual Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Program at Tarkio College.
• The high temperature for the week was 77 degrees on the 24th followed by a low of 28 on the 29th with heavy frost.
• This year, foreign language classes are being offered to Tarkio Junior High students. French is being offered to eighth graders and Spanish to seventh graders.
• At Hy-Vee: Walt Disney character transistor radios for $7.44 each; General Mills Cheerios cereal, 39¢ for a 10 oz. package; and Heinz dill pickles, 49¢ for a quart jar.

• A total of 61 pints of blood were collected at the Tarkio/Westboro Community Blood Drive.
• As part of the After School Special program, the kids enjoyed a medieval sword fighting demonstration led by Rev. Daniel Brakhage of the UMC in Burlington Junction, Missouri.
• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce is making plans for the Harvest Moon celebration. Shoppers can sign up to win ten $10 gift certificates, merchants will stay open late October 29, and the Tarkio FFA Chapter will host its fish and chicken fry.
• John Stockstill was crowned Tarkio High School Homecoming king and Ambera Wennihan was crowned queen.
