The Tarkio branch library was full on Thursday, October 19, for the Atchison County Library’s Third Thursday activity, where they had story time, decorated pumpkins, made an “I Spy” mural and enjoyed play time together.
River and Lillian Ottmann show off the “I Spy” mural they helped make after searching through sensory bins filled with colorful pom poms to find Halloween stickers to decorate the wall with.
Skyler Alsup, Bella Reeves, Crew Martin, Leevi Driskell, Cooper Martin and Emmett and Myah Reeves proudly show off the pumpkins they painted.
Sophie Smith is all smiles showing off the pumpkin she decorated. Burlap and Bows of Rock Port generously donated the miniature pumpkins for the 0 to 4-year-old group activity.

The Atchison County Library had another successful and fun Third Thursday on October 19, 2023, at the Tarkio branch. Children’s Librarian Amanda Vette read “The Great Monster Hunt” by Norbert Landa and “Gustav, The Shy Ghost” by Flavia Z. Drago.
The morning group, designed for children ages infant to four years old, had story time and then created a Halloween mural with items they found in sensory bins. They decorated pumpkins and enjoyed a snack. Before leaving, each family had the opportunity to pick out a book to take home.
The evening group, welcome to all ages and geared towards families to come and enjoy the library together, enjoyed the books “The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything” by Linda Williams and “Gustav, The Shy Ghost” by Flavia Z. Drago. Thanks to local farmers and Burlap and Bows of Rock Port, there were plenty of donated pumpkins for everyone to paint and take home. After the activity, it was time to make their own pumpkin seed trail mix.
