• Miss Lois Waits of Fairfax, a freshman at Maryville State Teachers College, is one of five candidates who have been nominated for queen at the annual homecoming to be held November 5 and 6.
• Forty-two head of boars and gilts were sold at the first Atchison County Boar and Gilt Sale held at the vocational agriculture building in Fairfax Saturday. Proceeds from the sale totaled $3,150.
• The monthly meeting of the Northwest Missouri Real Estate Dealers association was held at Elvera’s Cafe Wednesday night of last week. Nineteen members of the association were present.
• The Forum’s full line of Christmas cards are now on display.
• Richard Lee Pearce has enrolled in the Universal Training School in Omaha, Nebraska, where he will study refrigeration and air conditioning. He went to that city Monday to start his training.

• First National Bank Teller Tells column: “When we are too much concerned with the future over which we have no control, perhaps a happy pastime of recalling sounds of yesterday could be of use: squeaking of the windmill, mules braying, sound of Dad building a fire in the washhouse, Mom filling the boiler, the sound of rubbing on the washboard and splashing water in the tubs…”
• The Fairfax senior class will present a three-act comedy, “Brother Goose,” November 15 in the high school auditorium. Prepare yourself for a memorable evening filled with high-spirited fun and laughter.
• The Texaco Station on the corner has reopened. Bill Luellen, Fairfax native, who has been currently operating a station in Tarkio, has purchased the stock and equipment from Hippo Melvin Oil Company of Rock Port and opened this week as Bill’s Texaco Service.
• A warm and pleasant evening October 31 brought witches, goblins, and other spooky characters out in droves with 58 registered for prizes in the annual Fairfax Spook Parade. All participants were given a treat by the Fairfax Community Betterment Club. Winners of the small radios were Scott Adwell, Kevin Hafner, Karen Gibson, Kimberly Wake, and Claudia Gamache.

• The Fairfax Sorosis Club met Monday, November 2, at the Methodist Church fellowship room with 18 members and 17 guests present. Mary Catherine Ball gave a program featuring history of Sorosis from 1937-1947 and Gloria Bolton sang songs from the same era, “Saturday Night is the Loneliest Night of the Year” and “Street of Dreams.”
• A D.A.R.E. community potluck supper was held Wednesday, October 28, at the Fairfax R-3 Cafeteria. The Fairfax kindergarten class was the host. The students greeted everyone at the door. The second graders arranged the food table. The fourth graders served the drinks and the sixth graders were the ones who had decorated the cafeteria.
• Tanton Ray and Kevin Gladman were the poster contest winners for Red Ribbon Week. Both boys received a t-shirt as a prize.
• The Exchange Bank of Fairfax held a contest during their Halloween tailgate party October 30. Each participant had to guess the weight of two pumpkins and a Kansas City Chiefs football figurine. The winner was Bill Smith of Fairfax, who guessed the exact weight of 82 pounds. Bill received an uncirculated 1998 coin set from the Exchange Bank.
