The East Atchison Wolves traveled to Burlington Junction, Missouri, Friday, November 3, 2023, to take on the Nodaway Valley Thunder in the quarterfinal round of District 6 football action. This was one of East Atchison’s most complete games, both offensively and defensively, both played with few mistakes.

In the first quarter, the Thunder was able to strike first, returning the opening kick-off. This would be their last score in the first quarter. EA’s Cameron Brooks scored twice, first on a quick pitch from 20 yards out. Blake Simmons would hit Brooks, who would shake a defender to go 25 yards for the touchdown.This would end the first quarter with a 14 to 6 EA lead over Nodaway Valley.

Brooks would score once again with a 20 yard run to start the second quarter, giving the Wolves a 22 to 6 lead, but Nodaway Valley didn’t lay down as they would score two more times before halftime, bringing the score to 22-20 EA.

Coming out of halftime, the Wolves would go to work with a 63 yard run by Cameron Brooks. The two point conversion was good, giving the Wolves a 30 to 20 lead. Blake Simmons would get in on the action as he had two big carries, moving the ball to the four yard line, followed by a touchdown run the next play. Owen DeRosier would write his name in the book with his first of two interceptions, going back for a touchdown and his second one securing the win for the Wolves to be able to run the time out.

The Thunder would make a late charge to score on a 46 yard pass, but this would be their final touchdown on the night as the Wolves defeated Nodaway Valley 46-34.

The Wolves will travel to Oregon Friday night, November 10, to play South Holt for the district championship.
