Mark Kevin Hawkins left this life bound for The Promised Land, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, while hiking one of the many trails he explored around St. Louis County.

He was the beloved husband of Shawnee (née Kruse) Hawkins; devoted father of Chandra (Marcus) Hawkins and Justin (Crystal) Hawkins; cherished grandfather of Noah Bernat, Zion Bernat, Quinten Bernat, Ethan Hawkins, and Wyatt Hawkins; dear brother of Michael (Katia) Hawkins and Mary Bosch; and dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Mark was born in Fairfax, Missouri, January 5, 1957, to Junior and Pat Hawkins and grew up working on a farm. He graduated from Fairfax R-3 High School in 1975. He continued his education and graduated in 1984 with his bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University summa cum laude. Mark and Shawnee married in December 1980 and had a beautiful family together. Mark was hired as a financial advisor for Mark Twain Bank. He later established his own investment firm called Hawkins Advisory Services, LLC. Mark was then called as the business manager of Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church where he served many years using his “keen financial sense, his pastoral kindness and his eager laugh” to bless many.

Mark was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, making many treks to St. Louis with his friends and family to watch them play. He truly enjoyed the game, knew all the stats and loved the bond between a catcher and his pitcher. He enjoyed competing with his family in games of Backgammon, historical trivia, air hockey and stick hockey. He loved going on hikes both alone and with Shawnee and his family. He enjoyed listening to Bruce Springsteen’s music. Mark loved the dogs they had through the years. He also enjoyed Ted Drewes, good bourbon, finding the best donuts and bbq ribs. He provided well for his family. Mark’s faith was firmly fixed on Jesus, who became more dear with each passing year. His family said it best when they said, “If you knew Mark, you know what he loved because he loved to tell you what he loved.” He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church, Ballwin, Missouri. Interment was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
