The Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) board met November 8, 2023. Board members present were: Lori Seymour, Mary Ann Hull, Eryn Stepp, Bob Alldredge, Roger Martin, W.C. Farmer, and Jeff Meyer (via phone). Also present were Monica Bailey, director, and Carol Clark, administrative assistant.

The minutes and financials of the October meeting were approved.

Director Report

Careers on Wheels was held October 12, with nine participating businesses and 60 freshmen attending.

Atchison County Artisans Makers Market was held November 4 at the Velma Houts Fair Building with 80-90 shoppers attending. ACDC’s #ShopAC budget covers the room rental fee and newspaper ad for this event.

The 2023 Business Improvement Grant has supported two projects this year for a total of $5,000.

The Youth Professionalism Workshop for juniors will be held November 9 at the TAC.

#ShopAC is held annually on the Thursday before Thanksgiving, with nearly 25 businesses staying open until 8:00 p.m. on November 16. This year several stores will also accept passports on Friday until 4:00 p.m. (or during their regular business hours) to give shoppers an additional day to participate. This will be noted on the passport.

ACDC continues to support Tarkio Renewal and Restore Rock Port.

Monica gave an up date on the tax return/financial oversight. Heather Pemberton, CPA, did a spot check on site October 18. She examined a couple of minor issues and made suggestions for improvement. ACDC is scheduled to do a deep dive review (with report) every three years, which will next be completed during the summer of 2024.

New Business

The board reviewed the proposed 2023 budget amendments. The amended 2023 budget was approved as presented.

The board discussed restructuring nonprofit support funding for 2024, modeling it after applicable aspects of the Business Improvement Grant process and application.

Bailey presented a draft of the 2024 budget for review.

Executive Session

The meeting moved into executive session, then returned to regular session.
