Debra “Debbie” M. Dovel, age 64 of Hamburg, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Debra May Dovel was born on June 5, 1959, at the Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri, the daughter of James and Dorothy Cook. She graduated from Rock Port High School with the Class of 1977. On May 30, 1981, Debbie was united in marriage to Charles I. Dovel at the Baptist Church in Watson, Missouri.

She worked at various jobs over the years, including 40 years as an Avon representative. She achieved the Avon’s Presidential Club for excellent sales and service. She also worked at the Hamburg School and Grape Community Hospital. Debbie enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers. She was a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed going to games at the stadium or cheering from home.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Charlie Dovel, Hamburg; daughter, Megan Welch, and husband, Pete, Northboro, Iowa; two grandchildren, Cassidy and Marshall; mother, Dorothy Cook, rural Watson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Catlett (Dave), Theresa Gregg (Pat), Alan Dovel (Kim) and Mike Dovel; aunts, Nancy Cable, Versailles, Missouri, and Kay Cook, Gravois Mills, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Debbie was preceded in death by her son, Chad Dovel; father, Jim Cook; brother, Gary Cook; and mother and father-in-law, Murl and Shirley Dovel.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at New Life Church of Fremont County with Pastor Chris Staley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion (Utterback) Cemetery in rural Hamburg. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg. Memorials may be given to Madonna Rehabilitation in Lincoln, Nebraska, or Batten’s Disease Foundation. Remembrances may be left at www.gudefuneralhomes.com.
