• The Westboro Lions Club has now finished decorating Main Street. It looks very nice, especially at nights with the lights all on. Santa will be in town on Main Street Wednesday night, December 22. After that, the theater will give a free show to all.

• Competing with the nation’s top shooters, Laurence Knepper, 18-year-old Tarkio High School senior, scored an 84 for second place honors in the 100 handicap target race in Kansas City. The event was a feature of the 20th annual December Flyer and Target Tournament entered by 93 sportsmen. He was just one hit away from the target title.

• Students of Tarkio Elementary will present their holiday program “Christmas in One World” Tuesday in the high school auditorium.

• The Tarkio College a cappella choir will present its 16th Christmas Vesper Service Sunday. A feature of the program will be the first appearance of choir members in their new purple gowns with white stoles. Soloists will include Arthur Humphreys, Faylon Geist, Janett Evans, Marilyn Mitchell, Jack Evans, Jack Yates, and Mr. Gavin Doughty (director).

• The CROP-collected car of corn loaded and shipped from Nishnabotna last week was the first car of foodstuff sent overseas from Missouri.

December 13, 1973

• Twenty ways to save on your Christmas gift shopping at U-Save Mart in Tarkio: Heritage digital alarm clock, $20.76; official basketball, $3.91; West Bend electric skillet, $22.38; acrylic fall and winter scarves, $1.01; and men’s leather wallet, $3.16.

• Weekly Warrior: Wrestling, one of the oldest sports known to man, has come to THS. The wrestling team is being coached by Bill Fox and wrestlers include Mark Kling, Mark Smith, Mike Smith, Phil Lane, Dean Hicks, Dave Peterson, Mike Murphy, Kirby Barnes, Lou Brunk, Bill Hull, Rusty Stevens, Jon Henning, Jon Willers, C.W. Elton, and Ray Nance.

• Barrels, tires, and wood were the materials put to use for the new elementary playground equipment. The high school Art II class made the structures.

• A new royal blue and corn yellow sign is now decorating the outside of the ag shop. The 2nd hour farm structures class constructed the sign for the purpose of advertising the FFA.

December 10, 1998

• Gary Davison of Davison Excavating in Tarkio demolished a tenant house that was owned by Louise Scamman of Tarkio, just north of the Tarkio Golf Course.

• Harry and Sharon Hamilton of Tarkio refurbished Christmas decor – Santa’s sleigh and reindeer – stored away since 1969 for Linda Payton of Tarkio. The display is now set up at Linda’s residence on North Third Street in Tarkio.

• The warm weather we’ve enjoyed lately confused some flowers in town and caused them to bloom. An iris was in full bloom in front of the Tarkio Nutrition Center.

• The Tarkio Christmas Light Committee and several volunteers spent Saturday morning, December 5, putting up an enormous Christmas tree on the vacant lot next to the Red Door in Tarkio.
