Billy Dean Hines, the son of Charles Washie and Helen Louise (Batson) Hines, was born October 31, 1944, in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri.

On November 2, 1967, Billy was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and served his country overseas during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge on June 11, 1969.

On June 20, 1982, Billy was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Fahseler in Sublette, Kansas. They made their home in Liberal, Kansas, and Tarkio, Missouri. Sharon passed away in 2015.

Billy was employed by Henry Field Nursery, Shenandoah, Iowa. He then drove a truck for Steven’s Trucking and later was a Mill Operator at Lazy EH Feed Lot, Liberal. After returning to Tarkio, Billy drove a truck for JR Trucking, retiring in 2003.

Billy was a member of Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio and was a former member of Missouri Post #1000, Jefferson City, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, mowing yards, and dancing. Billy passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care in Tarkio at the age of 79.

Besides his parents and wife, Sharon Hines, Billy was preceded in death by infant sisters, Ila Fern and Phyllis Ann Hines; sisters, Susie Shaw and Roberta Faye Hines; and brothers, Charles, Ronald, and Junior Hines. Survivors include son, Billy Dean (Beth) Hines, Jr., Wapello, Iowa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, LeRoy “Butch” (Alice) Hines, Tarkio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio. Interment was held at Greenhill Cemetery at Rock Port. Reverend Glenn Scott officiated. Military rites were under the auspices of Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
