• Two Tarkio Navy men are serving with Task Force 38 now undergoing an intensive training period in the western Pacific and the China Sea area. Seaman Roy J. Wallace is serving aboard the light cruiser USS Astoria and Walter Emery Glazier, fireman apprentice, is serving aboard the destroyer USS Theodore E. Chandler. Ports of call between training maneuvers include Honolulu, Tsingtao, China, Yokosuka, Japan, and Guam.
• A package of holly was received at the Tarkio Public Library from Mrs. Carl Gardner of Londonbridge, Virginia. Mrs. Gardner was librarian here from 1925 to 1927. Mrs. Maud Barnett also received holly. The box of holly was sent by Mr. and Mrs. Vern Miller from Mt. Vernon, Washington. The holly with bright red berries was grown on Mr. Miller’s mother’s property.
• Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for A. B. Gordon, one of Atchison County’s oldest residents. Mr. Gordon would have been 95 years old April 23. He moved here from Ohio with his family and in his 25th year, he began farming for himself.
• As a feature of the holiday season, an electric train exhibit has been set up in the basement of the United Presbyterian Church. Robert Haupt has erected an exhibition similar to the one previously shown at the Tarkiesta.

• Christmas came early for KTRX. On December 1, the local radio station near Tarkio changed its call sign to KRSS, which means “cross.”
• PEO chapter in Tarkio made a $685 donation to Tarkio Academy to use to purchase Christmas presents for students.
• Members of Xi Eta Nu sorority of Tarkio donated gloves to the Tarkio Elementary School. Their donation was matched by the Place’s Store in Tarkio.
• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce donated $1,000 to Tarkio’s SOS group to be used for new playground equipment at the elementary school.
• Workers from Tarkio, Maryville, Mound City, St. Joseph, and Kansas City, Missouri, worked around the clock to restore natural gas service to Tarkio residents on Thursday and Friday, December 17 and 18. By 8:30 a.m. Friday morning, around 175 customers were still without natural gas service. Customers were asked to leave their porch lights on Thursday night to assist workers. Apparently, a farmer working in his field east of town dug into the main gas line that services Tarkio. The accident resulted in the loss of natural gas service to more than 650 customers in Tarkio.
