A Tarkio driver was injured in a single-vehicle wreck in Atchison County early Friday afternoon, December 29, 2023. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 59 roughly one mile north of Tarkio around noon. A 2021 Ford Escape, driven by Robin Henning, 67, was southbound when she was distracted by an animal in a field. This distraction caused the vehicle to cross the center of the road and travel off the east side of the highway. The Ford then struck a ditch before coming to rest on its wheels off the east side of the road facing south.

Henning, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was taken by an Atchison-Holt ambulance to Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri. The Ford Escape sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Double M Towing. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. T. L. Shupe, who was assisted by Tpr. R. A. Matthews and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
