January 21, 1949
• The Presbytery of St. Joseph, which represents 31 churches in northwest Missouri, convened at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church Monday morning. About 50 delegates, ministers, and workers are here.
• Walter B. Umbarger and his son, Raymond, have purchased from Don Ray the stock and business of the Standard Service Station at the west end of Fairfax’s Main Street. Mr. Ray has operated the station for some two years and has built up a good business with it.
• Mrs. Roy Haun and 28 of her third and fourth grade pupils of the Fairfax public schools visited the Forum office Tuesday afternon, saw the linotypes run, a portion of this week’s Forum being printed, and watched with interest the operation of the automatic and other job presses. This week is known nationally as Printing Education Week, honoring the birthday of Benjamin Franklin, who referred to himself as “Benjamin Franklin, Printer” when he penned his own epitath.
• The Skidmore Cops high school basketball team won the 19th annual Fairfax High School Tournament, defeating the Fairfax Bulldogs 38 to 36 in overtime.
January 24, 1974
• Kathy Muldrew has been named 1973-74 Fairfax R-3 Family Leader of Tomorrow. She won the honor by competing with other senior girls in the written knowledge and attitude examination.
• Fairfax Sorosis visited England when Virginia Moore shared her travel stories and slides. Scenes included those from the Winston Churchill estate, Big Ben, changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, the crown jewels, and much more.
• Students at FHS will be celebrating their 1974 basketball homecoming Friday with a theme of “Photographs and Memories.” Queen candidates are seniors Kathy Muldrew and Rita Hawkins and junior Linda Scarlett. King candidates are senior Rick Martin and juniors Hal Kottman and Mark Hawkins. After the coronation, a dance will be held in the old gym to the music of Tawny Port.
• Edward White of Fairfax was one of Missouri’s leading Shorthorn-Polled Shorthorn recorders during December according to the American Shorthorn Association of Omaha, Nebraska. White recorded 10 head.
• Ice jams in the Missouri River at Rulo, Nebraska, has caused flooding on the Missouri River bottom and at Big Lake. The lake water has been rising for the past several days and a number of cottages on the west side are flooded for the second time in six months.

• Little Miss Nakiah Rachel Ann Hamilton made her debut into the world with honors Sunday morning, January 17. She was the first baby to be born in the new year at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax. She is the daughter of Tanya McHugh and Gordon Hamilton of Burlington Junction, Missouri.
• Wolverine 4-H Club members traveled to Maryville, Missouri, to attend computer classes provided at Northwest Missouri State University.
• Three properties recently purchased by Community Hospital Association in Fairfax, located across Highway 59 to the north, were torn down by contracted services. After demo, the foundations will have to be removed before some additional parking will become a reality.
• Dr. David Scarbrough and his son, Graham, talked to Fairfax Early Childhood students about their falcon Cosmo and how Dr. Scarbrough uses the bird to hunt.
• A case in memory of Jessica Johnson has been set up in the north lobby of the Fairfax High School Gym. A dedication of the case was held during the Fairfax Invitational Tournament January 16.
