• The mobile blood donor unit from Wadsworth, Kansas, will be at the Memorial Building March 3 to obtain whole blood from volunteer donors. A quota of 60 pints of blood has been set for Atchison County.
• Rock Port’s volunteer fire department, which serves without pay, is sponsoring its annual dance Tuesday, February 22, at the Memorial Building. Riley Smith and his orchestra will furnish the music. Tickets are $1 each.
• Rock Port householders and businessmen who did without city water several days last week are now resting easier since a new pump was installed late last week at the city pumping station.
• The internal revenue collector at Kansas City reminds Atchison County income taxpayers that a deputy from his office will be at the courthouse in Rock Port February 23 and 24 to assist taxpayers in making out their tax reports.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre is “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes” with Edward G. Robinson.
• Clifton Furniture Co., Rock Port, advertised the new 1949 Philco refrigerator, with deluxe features at an amazing low price of $229.50.
February 14, 1974
• The Rock Port R-2 School was so hard hit with the flu that school officials cancelled classes Tuesday, February 12, and plan to resume school Tuesday, February 19. Out of 400 grade school students, 132 were absent last Friday, and 119 out of 323 junior high and high school students were ill.
• Missouri Beef Plant, Rock Port started slaughtering again February 8 after being shut down since January 31, due to the nationwide trucker strike.
• Dean Curnutt, county collector, has purchased the building at 415 S. Main, where he is conducting his bookkeeping business. He has rented the building from H.F. Stapel for the past four or five years.
• Nancy Wolf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wolf, is the C.O.E. Student of the Week. C.O.E. (Cooperative Occupational Education) is a new course that has been offered to seniors at Rock Port High School. Nancy is working in food service at the Triple T, owned and run by Mr. and Mrs. Billy Bob Thomas.

• Hardee’s, Rock Port, has closed its doors. They are presently going through a de-franchising period of 60 days. The Rock Port Quick Stop/Conoco, which consists of a convenience store and station, will remain open.
• Nine out of 10 Rock Port wrestlers who wrestled at Districts qualified for sectionals. They were: Trevor Hale, 103 pounds, 4th place; Cory Stoner, 119 pounds, 3rd place; Scott Barbee, 130 pounds, 2nd place; Chris Gebhards, 140 pounds, 2nd place; Clint Stoner, 145 pounds, 2nd place; Steven Proctor, 152 pounds, 3rd place; Chad Rogers, 160 pounds, 2nd place; Travis Gubser, 171 pounds, 3rd place; and Brandon Makings, heavyweight, 1st place.
• The annual Firemen’s Ball will be held Saturday, February 20, 1999, featuring Hot Wire. Advance tickets are $4 each.
• “Students of the Week” at Rock Port Elementary were: Emily Graham, Andy Rouse, Tanner Holmes, Aaron Mezgar, Katie Howell, Ronald Marriott, Taron Davis, Cory Coppock, Tyler Greene, Micah Meyerkorth, and Kevin Herron.
