The Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) board met February 14, 2024, at the ACDC office. Present were Lori Seymour, Bob Alldredge, Craig Corken, Mary Ann Hull, Jill Davis, Roger Martin, and Eryn Stepp, board members; and Monica Bailey, director.

Lori Seymour called the meeting to order.            

The minutes of the December meeting were approved.

The December and January financials were approved as presented.

Director Report

Great Northwest Day was February 6-7. Atchison County’s theme was “Planting Seeds and Growing Our Future,” focusing on the youth career efforts in our county (ACDC youth career events, Community Hospital-Fairfax youth engagement, and Tarkio Tech programs).

The 2024 Business Improvement Grant is open. A total of $3,500 has been awarded and $11,500 remains.

ACDC’s open bookkeeper/receptionist position was posted on social media and in the paper, requesting that resumés and three references be mailed to the office.

Bailey is updating the long-term furnished rental list to share with workers coming in this spring and summer to refurbish turbines in western Atchison County.

Eighth Grade Career Day will be held March 19.

Job Shadowing for Juniors is scheduled for April 4.

Scholarship applications for graduating seniors are available from high school counselors or on ACDC’s website under education and are due March 29.  Anyone needing assistance with the application is encouraged to contact ACDC.

Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments is working on a comprehensive economic development plan this year. Bailey attended a SWOT analysis session.

Old Business

The economic development tax renewal was discussed, as well as the community meeting schedule and speakers at upcoming lunches (March 13 in Rock Port at Dusty Trail, March 20 in Tarkio at the Nutrition Center, and March 27 in Fairfax at the Community Room).
