Senior East Atchison track star Tommi Martin signed to join the Missouri State girls’ track team for next year’s season during a signing ceremony held Friday, February 16, 2024, at the TAC. On hand for the celebration were Tommi’s parents, Traci Martin and Jerry Martin, Coach Joe Unternahrer, and Tommi’s teammates, classmates, and schoolmates.

Tommi was a part of last season’s East Atchison Lady Wolves State Track Championship run, was a member of the winning 4×400 meter relay, won gold in the 800 meter run, was part of the second place 4×800 meter relay team, and placed sixth in the javelin. Tommi has received 11 state medals in the past three years and hopes to medal during her senior year.

In addition to high school track, Tommi trains in the off season with Danny Butterfield through the Pony Express Track and Field and has participated in indoor track  meets in many states. In the summer she continues her love of  track as a heptathlete going to various outdoor track meets where she does the 800 meter run, javelin, shot put, 60 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and 200 meter dash.

Tommi qualified for the Junior Olympics at the national level in 2022 and 2023, where she medaled in the javelin. In college she will continue to compete in the 800 meter and javelin and also in the heptathlon.
