
Velva Deane Vette, the daughter of Lee Emmett and Helen Catherine (Currie) Stevens, was born April 13, 1934, in Tarkio, Missouri. She attended Homer Country School for four years then later Tarkio High School, graduating in 1952.
On January 18, 1953, Deane was united in marriage to Robert W. Vette at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri, by Rev. Nolte. Deane was baptized and confirmed on March 29, 1953. They became the parents of two sons, Robert “Bobby” Dean and Gary Lee. Robert passed away in March of 2017.
Deane was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was also a member of Altar Guild for many years, A.G.C. Extension Club, and served as a food leader for Farmer City 4-H Club.
Deane enjoyed cooking family dinners. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deane passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, at the age of 89.
Besides her parents and husband, Robert Vette, Deane was preceded in death by brother, Lee Eddie Stevens; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred (Verna) Vette and Leta (George) Balle. Survivors include sons, Bobby (Karen) Vette and Gary (Darcy) Vette; grandchildren, Brian (Amanda), Nicole, Brooke, and Tim (Kara); great-grandchildren, Isaac, Owen, Emmeline, and Gigi; sister-in-law, Donna Stevens; numerous nieces and nephews; and cousin, David (Margaret) Walkup.
A funeral service was held Friday, March 15, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, conducted by Rev. Franz J. Brandenburg. Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or St. John’s Cemetery Association. Arrangements were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
