• Bungenstock Electric in Rock Port advertised G.E. space saver refrigerators priced from $216 and up and G.E. ranges priced from $169.95 and up.

• Opp & Prime in Rock Port is advertising hybrid seed corn certified U.S. 13 and Ohio C92 regularly $8.95 per bushel. Germination guaranteed. Best grades of flats.

• Pete Underwood has purchased from Marshall Marlatt 60 acres north of Rock Port. The farm is the one where Marlatt formerly lived.

• Roy R. Wade of Nishnabotna and James O. Combs of Fairfax are at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, attending eight weeks of basic training with the U.S. Army’s Fifth Armored Division.

• W.W. Holliway, who has been in the lumber and building materials business in Rock Port almost 51 years, sold the business this week to the Snowden family, which operates 11 other lumberyards in this part of the country.

• Rock Port’s Sorosis study club, which has had a longer active existence than any other civic, social, or literary organization in town, ended its 51st year Wednesday with a luncheon at The Ritz, followed by a short business meeting at the home of Miss Louise Volkmann.

April 4, 1974

• Mr. and Mrs. Ned Greenley celebrated the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Coach House restaurant and Ned’s 50th birthday Thursday with about 100 of their friends at a buffet supper. The Coach House was opened by Greenley at the site of the former Ritz Cafe, located just north of the Opp Hotel.

• Frank Heyen is the new mayor of Rock Port, taking the place of Charles W. Shaw, who resigned after serving a term of one year.

• A 1966 John Deere 4020 diesel tractor and miscellaneous tools, tires, and oil accessories were stolen from the farm of Junior Roop, 3 1/2 miles northwest of Watson on March 23 in the evening or morning hours. The total value of everything stolen is $9,000 to $10,000.

• This week’s featured C.O.E. student is Miss Dayan Garst. Dayan works as a veterinary assistant. She alternates between Dr. Jack Scamman at the Rock Port Sales Pavilion and Dr. Espey’s (Jr. and Sr.) veterinary office in Tarkio.

• The Atchison County 4-H Carnival King and Queen were Roger Houts and Julie Lair. The Farmer’s City booth won the booth contest with a country kitchen theme and a replica of an old stove. Circle 4 4-H placed second with a big barn replica the group constructed.

• The Bank of Atchison County named Jayne Ann Bennington as its Employee of the Week. She’s worked at the bank since 1965.

April 1, 1999

• The Atchison County Development Corporation is getting a new home this week. The office will be moving into the Farm Bureau office complex.

• At the Rock Port Market: California snowball cauliflower, $1.29 per head; Jergens assorted skin care lotion, 10 oz. bottle, $3.29; Bugles assorted corn snacks, 8 oz. bag, $1.19;Tostitos assorted chips, 2 for $5; and Kraft Miracle Whip, $2.89.

• The Rock Port Optimist Club has named Charlie Clodfelter and Bryce Bunton as the Optimist Teenagers of the Month.
