• At the B. P. Hunter Stores: spring and summer style dresses now $6.95; spring coats now $14.50; and men’s Munsingwear athletic shirts are 75¢ each.

• The Fairfax Chapter of the Future Farmers of America held its annual banquet Monday night with 100 present. H.A. Sly, president of the chapter, acted as toastmaster and Van Murchie of St. Joseph, who spent part of his early life in Fairfax and is now a nationally known and much sought after dinner speaker, was the guest speaker of the evening.

• The choir of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church under the leadership of Mrs. Herschel Stoner will present its annual Easter cantata, “The Cross of Redemption,” Easter evening.

• B. L. Johnson is moving his family and household goods this week from Iowa Falls, Iowa, to the residence property he recently purchased from Ed Hunter in southeast Fairfax.

April 17, 1974

• The concert choir Chamber Chorale from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa, will perform at Tarkio College on Friday. The organization is directed by Carol Stewart, formerly Carol Hackett, daughter of Ralph Hackett, who grew up in Fairfax and graduated from the local high school.

• Mr. and Mrs. J. Ed Hunter will be honored with an open house in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, April 21. The Hunters have lived most of their married life in the Fairfax community.

• Mrs. Maude Irvine celebrated her 93rd birthday with friends and family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Irvine.

• A generous supply of Easter goodies was exhausted in a matter of minutes as young kids of the area gathered in the city park to take advantage of treats offered by the Community Club. Serving as bunny was Chris Fisher.

• Mrs. Violette Haun was recognized by Community Hospital Association for her retirement after 13 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Haun’s guests included her son and his wife, her two daughters and their husbands, and 11 of her 13 grandchildren.

April 15, 1999

• Showalter and Son of Craig, Missouri, tore down and burned the Yandell house across from Fairfax R-3 School. The school has purchased the property and will be making it into a parking lot.

• Integrated Health Services of Tarkio and Community Hospital Association of Fairfax partnered up to provide feelings of greetings and new beginnings for newborns at the hospital. Integrated Health Services recently donated 50 little brown teddy bears to be given to newborns at the hospital.

• Fairfax band students participated in District Band Contest April 9 in Maryville, Missouri. The band received a 1 rating and there were also seven individual 1 ratings.

• Bequests were presented to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax United Methodist Church, Community Hospital Association, and the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department from the Virginia Moore Estate on Thursday, April 8. In addition, $20,000 has gone to the J.W. and Virginia Moore Scholarship Fund, administered by the United Methodist Church.

• The Fairfax Kiwanis and Optimists Clubs held a Pancake Day Tuesday, April 6. A total of 170 people were served, with proceeds going to the youth summer ball programs.

• A storm whipped by, ripping up a barn on the Donnie Smith property southwest of Fairfax.

• A large crane lowered a new cooling tower weighing over a half-ton into place at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax last week. The 22 year-old system had almost completely rusted away.
