The Rock Port Tourism Board met Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Rock Port City Hall. Members present were Holly Huntley, Mark Schoonover, Ashtyn Beatty, Thea Lewis, Emily Schulte, and Kate Curry. Charlie Clodfelter and Jody VanSickle were absent.

The meeting agenda was approved.

Holly spoke to Angela Mace and she has her letter of resignation ready, but she hasn’t dropped it off yet. Emily stated that Tami Lansdown submitted her resignation letter. There are two positions on the board open. .

Board members approved the February 27, 2024, meeting minutes and the February 2024 financials.

Projects & Events

Holly was able to book bands for 2024 band nights as follows: June 22, High Heel at the Country Club; August 17, Steven Bankey and the Flatland Band in the park (pending the correct permissions); September 21, Mr. Sinister at the Country Club with an 80s theme (after Old Fashioned Saturday Night).

Summer Palooza is set for May 23, the last day of school for Rock Port. Holly booked Aaron Chaney for a DJ. It was decided that Holly will use the two bounce house companies from last year and that there will be no laser tag this year. Letters will be sent to businesses about donations for the gift bags. Emily will get those out ASAP.

Emily will start pricing the glow items for the 4th of July.

Thea reported that if the Country Club is okay with the Christmas In July plan, they could be the start and end point for the poker run/parade. She will speak to the city and county police.

Thea reported that the midget wrestlers that she has contacted do not work in the Midwest, but she is still looking.

Kate reported that she has contacted a few comedians. The only one she has heard from as of this meeting was Aaron Scarbrough. His fee is $1,300 and as of right now, he does have openings in November. The board will give the other comedians time to respond and decide more at the next meeting.

Storage Unit

Emily stated there were only a few items in the storage area that belong to the Tourism Board. There are six Christmas wreaths that were for the Welcome to Rock Port signs. Most of the wreaths have broken Christmas balls on them. It was decided to sell 13 old metal light parts. Emily is looking into a few other items to see who owns them for sure.

Turbine Blade

Kate reported that Mrs. Rueckert decided against this project for this year due to a recent knee surgery. Kate will check into the artist that painted murals in Tarkio and Fairfax. It was also discussed that this could be tabled until next year if the Art Club would be interested in doing it then.

Other Business

Kate will approach her niece about making flyers and event calendars.

Emily stated she saw an interesting event called a Kid Ran Vendor Fair – if she gets more information, she will present it to the board.

Thea stated she was approached about the Farmer’s Market. It was unclear what was needed, so Thea will talk to her contact. The board decided they are willing to help with it financially, but not with manpower as most members don’t have the time.
