The Atchison County Commission met Thursday, April 18, 2024. Present were: Presiding Commissioner Curtis Livengood, South District Commissioner Richard Burke, North District Commissioner Jim Quimby, and Susette Taylor, Clerk of the Commission.
Presiding Commissioner Livengood called the meeting to order.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Bills were reviewed and approved for payment.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Kamron Woodring was present to report that the commercial lease agreement between the Atchison County Commission and Watts Electric Company for use of .63 acres of land located at 20964 L Avenue, which is part of 6.42 vacant lot, was not signed by Watts Electric as they have been removed from the project so therefore was not a fully executed agreement. Northwest Electric Power Corporation has taken over the project and has requested entering into the commercial lease agreement originally offered to Watts Electric. The commission reviewed the agreement and discussed if this would be a problem. Seeing none, the commissioners voted to enter into the commercial lease agreement with Northwest Electric Power Corporation for the same .63 acres of land located a 20964 L Avenue.
Supervisor Woodring then reported that the Braddyville Quarry was out of crushed rock and was short by 5,700 tons to complete the contract for the county. The timeline for the crusher was not scheduled until late summer and that was not firm. They will honor the same price per ton to pull from their Graham/Schildberg Quarry. The original contract with Holt County Ready Mix was to haul the rock and spread it directly on the roads to the Westboro area. Since it is now required to be pulled from a quarry that is farther away, they provided a bid for a surcharge of an additional $3.15 per ton for the added mileage. Because the county is already in an agreement with Holt Ready Mix for the entire hauling for 2024, the commissioners voted to accept the added surcharge for additional mileage so the rock can be applied in a timely manner.
Sheriff Dennis Martin met with the commission to discuss building security protocol.
