Family Nurse Practitioner Pam Davis has retired after 46 years of service to the community. A retirement reception is being held in her honor on May 10 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the hospital.

Clients  of  Community  Hospital-Fairfax’s family medicine clinics said goodbye to Family Nurse Practitioner Pam Davis this week. Pam ended her nursing career after 46 years of service, 26 of those years spent as a nurse practitioner.

Pam has always wanted to help people and that generous spirit saw her working as a nurse’s aide while she was attending high school. After high school, Pam attended Nebraska Methodist in Omaha, Nebraska, and received her nursing certificate in the 1970s. She worked at Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri, for 10 years and then served two years as the Director of Nursing at Northview Manor (now Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care) in Tarkio, Missouri. In the early 1990s, she went back to school to become a nurse practitioner, earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Missouri Western State University and her Master’s Degree from UMKC. She worked at the hospital again and under Dr. Wallace Carpenter at his medical clinics. Then she began providing nursing services under Dr. Hrabik, who began his private practice in Tarkio in the 1990s. Besides Dr. Carpenter and Dr. Hrabik, she’s worked with Doctors Hunter, Knauss, and Burke.

Pam has always provided a very caring, nonjudgmental  interaction with all of her patients and those nurse practitioner/client relationships have lasted four decades and carried over from one generation of family to the next. Although she enjoyed working with all, senior citizens always held a special place in her heart. She said it was a pleasure providing them medical care, but it was very sad when they reached the end of their lives. Those relationships with all of her patients is what Pam will miss the most in her retirement, as well as her coworkers, who have become like family. Even though retirement spells the end to her nursing career, she will not be sitting idle. She plans to help her family in their farming operation when needed, spend time with her grandson, and travel with her husband.

A retirement reception is being held in Pam’s honor Friday, May 10, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Community Hospital-Fairfax conference room. The hospital is located at 26136 Hwy. 59, Fairfax. Everyone is encouraged to come wish Pam a happy retirement!
