With Memorial Day approaching, we feel confident that area cemeteries are facing the same issues that we at Hunter Cemetery are experiencing. Maintenance costs are rising while donations are greatly decreasing. Our cemetery spends thousands of dollars yearly for mowing, tree trimming/removal, concrete repairs, insurance and many other expenses that are normal for all cemeteries. Bringing flowers, trinkets, flags, solar lights, and those types of things are a way some pay tribute to their loved ones. But we must pay someone to remove items that hinder mowing or are old and broken. Items are easily stolen. Consider instead giving a monetary donation. Set an example for your children by donating and when they become adults, they will understand how important the cemeteries are to our past, but also our future. None of us want the resting places of our loved ones and ancestors to become an overgrowth of weeds that will have to be burned off every spring! That could happen in the years to come when donations cease and savings are depleted. What a tragedy that would be. Please consider donating this Memorial Day.
