
Rock Port residents gathered at the Atchison County Memorial Building to hear about the current status of the pool and park.
The Rock Port Park Board met Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Atchison County Memorial Building. Board members present were Jennifer Geib, Sheena Roup, Amber Graham, Tawni Ellis, Jax Lutz, and Clint Dougherty. Visitors present were Mayor Amy Thomas, Alderwoman Lisa Farmer, Jeff Geib and Rhonda Lingerfelt.
The meeting agenda was accepted.
Board members voted to amend the April 2, 2024, meeting minutes to remove Jill Lager and add Clint Dougherty to the members present. They also approved the March financials and reviewed the April 11, 2024, payables.
Pool
A plan is needed for pool draining, cleaning and painting. A request has been put in for the water table levels. Jennifer also asked what the levels need to be. Finally she asked to borrow the pumps. The park board is thinking that they need to drain, clean and paint the first week in May. Once it has been filled, chemicals will have to be put in.
Tawni reported that Dennis Buckles reached out and offered that his company could help if repairs are needed.
There were two new applicants, Norah Watkins and Bannack Skillen, and a second year return guard, Tarver Muntz. Board members voted unanimously to hire all three.
There are two applications for manager. Board members voted to table hiring a manager.
Park Updates
Jennifer received an insurance update. The City of Rock Port is on the school’s insurance. Jennifer has received the certificate of liability insurance and has it on file.
The 4th of July committee has asked if the park board would like to host any sort of event on the 4th of July.
Jennifer read a text message from Holly Huntley. The Tourism Board would like to utilize the park for Summer Palooza again this year. Jennifer requested that they have a hold harmless and liability insurance and any other appropriate documentation on file. The request to use the park for Summer Palooza was accepted.
Holly also had a request to hold a band in the park August 17. They would like to have alcohol. Jennifer is going to visit with them to find additional information.
Other Business
Tawni Ellis has decided to not renew her term. She was thanked for her service to the board and the community.
Officers elected were: Jennifer Geib, president; Jill Lager, vice-president; Sheena Roup, secretary.

The Rock Port Park Board met Friday, April 26, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. at the Rock Port City Park. Members present were Jennifer Geib, Sheena Roup, Devon Sons, Jax Lutz, and Clint Dougherty (via phone).
The meeting agenda was amended to include the discussion of steps to be ordered for the pool.
Business
There was discussion on seasonal employment. Those already approved are Jacoby Driskell, Jayme McEnaney, Tarver Muntz, Bannack Skillen, and Norah Watkins.
Applicants to consider for hire included Cara Davis, Debbie Riley, Raechel Schoonover, Brylea Shrader, Morgan Garst, Dylan Kemerling, Claire Miller, Keira Roup.
Two applications for manager were received and one offer to the board via conversation was received from Raechel Schoonover. After discussion, board members voted unanimously to hire Debbie Riley as the pool manager for the 2024 pool season.
The following lifeguards were were hired: Keira Roup, second year guard; Dylan Kemerling, third year guard; Claire Miller, first year guard; and Brylea Shrader and Morgan Garst, substitute guards for the 2024 season. Sheena Roup abstained from the conversation.
Hiring an assistant manager was tabled until the May 8 meeting.
Season pay for the 2024 season will be kept on file with the Rock Port Park & Pool Board.
A new set of pool steps is needed in the 3’ on the west side to replace the current ones that are broken. Jen presented two sets of steps, one which is curved and one set that was not curved and the same as before. Board members voted to purchase the steps with the curve.
