The commencement ceremony for the Tarkio High School Class of 2024 was held Sunday, May 12, 2024, in the high school gym. Twenty-one seniors earned their diplomas: Jamie Alexandra Barnett, Alexis Taylor Bywater, Caiden Eugene Caudill, Taylor James Doyle, Dalaynie Dawn Drummond, Jozee LaLayne Eaton, Drew Ricky William Johnson, Weston James Klosek, Mary Emerson Laur, Claire Jacqueline Martin, Tommi Lee Renee Martin, Shelby Alan McNaughton, Hailey Jae Morton, Linkin Alexander Murry, RayLeigh Nicole Nance, Addison Leigh Noland, Jersi Layne Poppa, Garret Irvin Rosenbohm, Ian James Stepp, Emma Jane Alexcia Viets, and Brooklyn Kendall Wennihan.
The top five students were: Brooklyn Wennihan (valedictorian), Alex Barnett (salutatorian), Claire Martin, Jozee Eaton, and Jersi Poppa.
Senior National Honor Society members included Alex Barnett, Alexis Bywater, Jozee Eaton, Mary Laur, Claire Martin, Tommi Martin, Addison Noland, Jersi Poppa, Garret Rosenbohm, Ian Stepp, and Brooklyn Wennihan. Senior class officers were: Brooklyn Wennihan, president; Jersi Poppa, vice-president; Alexis Bywater, secretary; Claire Martin, treasurer; and Ian Stepp and Tommi Martin, Student Council representatives. Class sponsors were Joe and Heidi Unternahrer. The class song was “Long Live” by Taylor Swift. The class motto was “The best class of all time.” by the Class of 2024. The class colors were sunset orange, yellow, and pink and the class flower was the dahlia.
The Tarkio High School Band played “Pomp & Circumstance” as the seniors, led by junior escorts, River Dow and Abbie Harms, filed into the gymnasium. Tarkio High School Principal Kevin Dodson led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tarkio R-I Superintendent Bob Heddinger welcomed all in attendance and introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Dodson. A slide show presentation was played and then the Tarkio High School Chorus sang “Maybe Someday We’ll Meet Again.” Brooklyn Wennihan, valedictorian, and Alex Barnett, salutatorian, gave remarks. Mr. Dodson, with the assistance of Tarkio R-I School Board President Sam Hannah, presented the diplomas. Mr. Dodson then led everyone in the Pledge to the School Flag and the graduates exited the gym to their class song, “Long Live.” Everyone gathered outside on the east lawn to congratulate the graduates.
