• Fly in the famous Beechcraft Bonanza which Bill Odom flew nonstop from Hawaii to New York. Book your travel by air from the Tarkio Airport with reasonable rates of: round trip to Kansas City – $20 for 1 person; $24 for 2; $28 for 3 or 4.
• A clogged downspout on the roof of the Gildersleeve & Simon drug store last Friday night caused water to leak down through the upstairs apartment and into the store, causing some damage to stock and making a general mess of the place.
• In an indirect manner, Rock Port is involved with the suicide of James V. Forrestal, former secretary of defense, who killed himself last week by jumping from an upper story of the Bethesda, Maryland, naval hospital. A board of inquiry has been named to investigate and one of the board members is Capt. Harold J. Cokely, a former Rock Port resident. (His father, Rev. J. Jay Cokeley, was the former Rock Port Methodist minister.)
• Because of his long ill health and the fact that his wife is now in the hospital, George G. Smith of Shiloh district north of Rock Port has been unable to get his work done. Neighbors planted some 24 acres of his corn last week.
• A newsletter from the Eighth Army in Osaka, Japan, says that Sgt. Orville Woodring, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Woodring of Rock Port, has been transferred to Osaka and is assigned to the 25th Infantry (Tropic Lightning) division.
• Rock Port has a so-called six-member Glutton Club. This gustatory organization is made up of Orville Loomis, Jack Savage, Bluford LaHue, Ralph Bennington, Buck Greer, and Rex Shandy. It meets each Saturday at the Central Cafe for dinner with the host for the day providing the menu without the others knowing what it will be.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port is “Magnum Force” with Clint Eastwood.
• The American Legion Ralph Greer Post No. 49 has recently closed its snack bar and recreation facilities and leased the building to Don Tharp, owner of D & N Western Shop.
• The largest turnout in several years, numbering around 318 persons, attended the 1974 Rock Port High School Alumni Banquet. Chosen as king and queen of this year’s festivities were Clay Knierim and Kim Burke.
• Rock Port’s best ball tournament was a grand success Saturday and Sunday with 108 golfers participating in 54 teams. Bob Tietz and Leonard Leimback won the championship flight with a team score of 127.
• Barry Minter won the 180 low hurdles at the Missouri State Track Meet in Columbia with a time of 20.4. Reed Martin placed third in the 440 yard dash.

• Bill and Marjorie Alloway will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, May 21. They were married on that date in 1949 in Falls City, Nebraska.
• Rock Port Garden Club President Carmie Fletemeyer presented a plaque to Bud Husing from the State Garden Club naming him in the Book of Honor for the many times he assisted the local club.
• Chats: “The Rock Port R-II School Board finally did what should have been done several years ago. They closed the lunch hour.”
• Thirty-four students graduated this year from Rock Port High School. Valedictorian is Brock Bastow and salutatorian is Dustin Carpenter.
