Janell D. McQuinn, the daughter of Garry, Sr. and Eunice (Ferrell) Simons, was born November 18, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Hickman High School, Independence, Missouri, graduating in 1954.

On October 9, 1954, Janell was united in marriage to Don D. McQuinn at Immanuel Baptist Church, Independence. The couple moved to North Carolina while Don was stationed and after his honorable discharge, they made their home in Independence. They became the parents of three children, Stephen, Kevin, and Nancy. Don passed away in 2006.

In the 1970s, Janell was employed for a newspaper company in Butler, Missouri, where she operated on the first ever computer in Bates County. Later, she was employed as an administrative assistant for health care facilities in Dallas, Texas. She retired in 2001. In 2002, she and Don moved to Fairfax, Missouri, to be closer to family.

Janell was a member of the social sorority of Beta Sigma Phi, Community Hospital-Fairfax Auxiliary, and the First Baptist Church, Tarkio, Missouri. She was also a member of Forty-Niners and Pitch Club, both of Fairfax. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting antique glassware, and cats. Janell passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, Missouri, at the age of 87.

Besides her parents and husband, Don McQuinn, Janell was preceded in death by son, Kevin McQuinn; son-in-law, Kevin Hurst; and great-grandson, Murphy Hurst. Survivors include children, Stephen McQuinn and Nancy Hurst, both of Tarkio; grandchildren, Brooks (Amy) Hurst, Brett (Shelby) Hurst, Dallas Hurst, Taylor (Kameron) Hurst, and Christina (Brian) Santti; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Garry, Jr. (Suzan) Simons, Goodyear, Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, conducted by Pastor Robert Nelson. Interment was at Home Cemetery, Tarkio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, for Staff Benefit Fund. Arrangements were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
