The Atchison County Commission met Thursday, June 6, 2024.  Present were: Presiding Commissioner Curtis Livengood, South District Commissioner Richard Burke, North District Commissioner Jim Quimby, and Susette Taylor, Clerk of the Commission.

Presiding Commissioner Livengood called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Bills were reviewed and approved for payment.

Month-end department reports were reviewed and approved.

Rhonda Wiley, Emergency Management/E-911 Director, met with the commission to finalize the contract for remodeling the Atchison County 911 office and putting out specifications to bid on a security system. The contract for construction for the remodel was reviewed and signed by the commission and will be forwarded to True Quality Construction. Clerk Taylor will draft the bid specifications for a door access control and a surveillance camera system. Bid opening was set for June 27, 2024.

Clerk Taylor discussed the 2024 Board of Equalization and stated that two citizen appointments were needed to fill the board. Presiding Commissioner Livengood suggested Deanna Beck and Craig Corken, who have served in the past and done an outstanding job. Clerk Taylor will contact them to see if they are available.

The commissioners, Clerk Taylor and HR Deputy Amy Meinecke met with John and Matthew Hickman to discuss the county health, dental, and life insurance. They went over concerns and questions and will begin working on the 2025 renewal options. All employees will need to complete a current census and Deputy Meinecke will work with them to get that completed.

The commissioners and Clerk Taylor attended a luncheon at Tarkio Tech with the Leadership Class of 2024. Road and Bridge Supervisor Kamron Woodring, a 2023 graduate, was one of the Atchison County hosts.

The commission then participated in the Atchison County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation planning meeting held at the Velma Houts Building. Steve Houts, Hazard Mitigation Planner, and Kirk Kopper, Community Planner with the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments, reviewed the purpose and requirements of the plan, reviewed the public survey results and plan goals, reported on the status of previous actions, discussed the development of new actions and the prioritization of mitigation actions.
