• Dr. Paul W. Musgrave has a force of carpenters at work putting partitions in the building he has rented for an office one door west of the Blue Bell Cafe. As soon as the remodeling is finished and equipment is installed, Dr. Musgrave will be ready to start his practice of medicine here.
• Fairfax got revenge Sunday for the defeat Corning handed them early in the season. They sent the boys from the banks of the Missouri home with a 2-21 defeat. Fairfax scored five runs in the first inning alone. Graves struck out 10, gave two passes on balls, hit two men, and allowed six hits.
• The heavy rains of the past few weeks have created a big problem for the county court in the way of damaged and washed out bridges and roads. Public roads are closed at more than 60 places in the county and several large bridges went out with last week’s cloudburst rains.
• Seats have been provided in front of the bandstand at the Fairfax City Park for those who wish to attend the weekly concerts. Concerts are held on Tuesday nights.
July 11, 1974
• Fourteen members of the Fairfax Community Garden Club met at Fair Haven Community Room Tuesday morning and then toured seven gardens. They enjoyed a rest stop and cool drink at the Florence Dunlap residence.
• In compliance with Missouri State Law which requires each municipality provide for solid waste collection and disposal, a city-wide trash collection will be instituted August 1 in Fairfax. Whited and Sons Trash Service of Tarkio will serve each household within the Fairfax city limits. The service charge will be at the rate of $3.25 per month and a charge of 50¢ per month will be added for accounts two or more months delinquent.
• Temporary pump installation at the new well site will bolster the city water supply hopefully by the first of the week. With only one well in operation, continued hot and dry weather has put a strain on the water system.

• Fairfax High School graduate William C. “Bill” Purchase died June 28 at his home in Albuqerque, New Mexico, at the age of 70. Bill had worked at Jet Propulsion Lake in Pasadena, California, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida (the unit is now in orbit via the Galileo Space Station). He then worked for the Department of Transportation in the Department of Energy, retiring in 1990.
• Fairfax High School varsity cheerleaders brought home awards from the UCA Cheer Camp in Omaha, Nebraska. The girls received a spirit stick all three days, earned two gold superior ribbons, three blue superior ribbons, and one excellent ribbon for evaluations. Traci Davis was named “The Fastest Human” in an olympic games competition. The squad also earned trophies for Cheer Camp Champ, Superior Squad, and Most Improved. Traci also made the UCA All-Star Squad which will travel to London, England, December 26, to perform in the New Year’s Day Parade.
• You can access the internet at the Fairfax Library, thanks to a LSTA Federal Grant of $3,900. Both the Fairfax and Tarkio Libraries used the grant to purchase basic equipment to electronically access information and each library also has a laser inkjet printer so patrons can print information.
