• Plans called for aerial spraying of Tarkio today. The spraying, which will take 80 flights across town, will be done by Robert Goble of the Tarkio airport.
• Harry O’Mealy was appointed head coach of intercollegiate athletics for the coming year at Tarkio College.
• Billy Hullet, 13-year-old Tarkio newspaper carrier, spent this week in Chicago on an all-expenses paid trip awarded him by the Omaha World-Herald. Billy won the trip for obtaining a minimum of 25 new customers for the metropolitan paper. He secured 30 new subscribers since he began delivering newspapers May 29.
• Youth of the Tarkio Christian Church will hold an ice cream social Saturday evening. The event will be held on the vacant lost west of Balle’s Sinclair Station on Main Street. Homemade ice cream, cakes, and pies will be sold.
July 18, 1974
• A reception honored C.L. “Chub” McAdams on his 65th birthday July 7. Mr. McAdams is now partially retired after 50 years in the printing business, most of which was with the Tarkio Avalanche. The reception was given by his children at the Farmers and Valley Bank Community Room.
• Funeral services were held July 15 for Harold W. Logan, 79, of Tarkio. A WWI veteran who had served in the United States Army in France, Mr. Logan had been a weather observer for the C.A.A. before he retired 15 years ago.
• First National “Teller Tells” column: Some folks do not seem to believe it, but there is a shortage of pennies or one cent pieces. The shortage is very severe and banks are rationed to the extent that only small amounts of pennies are allotted to each bank.
• Miss Barbara Schrier, a 1974 Tarkio College graduate, will teach English and German and direct plays at Tarkio High School this coming school year.
• After 15 years of attempting to solve the North Seventh Street sewer, construction of the much-needed facility was started this week by Mayfield Construction, Inc. The residences along the sewer route are being connected as the work progresses, with completion scheduled for August 15. This sewer will allow for new construction in the area.
• A silent auction is being held at the Mule Barn to help with this summer theatre’s financial success. Items up for bid include: an 1880s European bowl and pitcher donated by Drews Antiques, an original acrylic painting painted and donated by Thomas D. Palmerton, an oriental screen donated by Key Antiques & Interiors, a macrame wall hanging made and donated by Sandra McKone, an heirloom quilt donated by Mrs. Largen and Grebe, country dolls donated by Bazar, a handcrafted silver necklace made and donated by Wayne Selsor, and a walnut chest donated by Dr. and Mrs. Perry Thompson.

• Officers were installed for the Tarkio Lions Club during the meeting held July 12, 1999. Officers are: Marv Southard, president; Jamie Barnett, third vice-president; Larry Amthor, secretary; Kevin Helzer, board member; Gary Vette, board member; and Doug Summa, treasurer.
• July Yards of the Month are: Tarkio – Marvin and Karon Southard, Leland and Connie Crapson, Duane and Lori Sabins, Twyla Jagger, Julie Shaw, Roger Aufenkamp, and Tarkio Family Practice Center; and Westboro – Butch and Norma Mather and Roger and Kris Jones.
• Rebekah Koch, a 1998 graduate of Tarkio High School, is working at her first pharmacy internship at Rogers Pharmacy this summer.
• Three holes in one were recently shot at the Tarkio Golf Course. Bill Smith shot one on hole number six July 7. Rob Hill shot one on hole number six during the men’s two-day tournament last weekend. Ferd Ray shot his on hole number six on July 6. This was Ferd’s third hole in one.
