Devon Sons, left, presented a Missouri Century Farm Club sign and certificate to David Frede, right, of Frede Family Farm. The Whitfords were also recognized, but were not present. They will receive their sign and certificate at another time.

The Century Farm Program, co-sponsored by University of Missouri Extension and Missouri Farm Bureau, recognizes farms that have been owned by the same family for 100 consecutive years or more.

The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings and nephews and nieces, including through marriage or adoption.

The present farm shall consist of no less than 40 acres of the original land and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income.

Two Century Farms were recognized at the Atchison County Fair as this year’s inductees into the Missouri Century Farm Club. They were:

David and Karen Frede – Frede Family Farm. They own 133 qualifying acres that were originally owned by Harry V. Frede, the grandfather who purchased it in 1922.

James Earl and Myrtle Joann Whitford of Maysville, Missouri, own 78 acres originally owned by William J. Graves, a great-grandfather-in-law who purchased the land in 1880.
