The Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 held a meeting on August 12, 2024, with seven members attending. Roll call was answered with members giving their hours and money spent helping veterans for the months of May, June and July. The meeting began with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Girls’ State attendee Abbie Harms of rural Westboro, Missouri, a student at Tarkio High School, came to the meeting to give a report on the events of that week in June. She really enjoyed all the activities and learning and participating in the government process. She even went to Washington, D.C., meeting several elected officials.
The minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Barb Hines and approved with a few changes made. The financial report was given by Treasurer Sheridan Mires and approved.
Sheridan gave a report on National President’s visit. She shared what the President’s Project and Service Project was about. The unit voted to give a donation to both projects. There was a membership reminder that senior and junior dues are due.
The district meeting will be held September 7, 2024, at the Tarkio Legion building. Registration is at 10:00 a.m. with the meeting starting at 10:30 a.m. The host members should be there at 9:00 a.m. Installation of district officers will take place, with Sharon Slagle installing. Set up for the meeting will take place on Friday, September 6, at 1:00 p.m.
The dates for the fall rummage sale have been set for October 18 and 19, 2024. Donations will be accepted from October 8-16, with no take-ins on October 17. For questions, call Barb Hines at 660-254-2787, KC Hines at 660-623-9297, or Linda Payton at 660-623-9399.

Linda Kaye declared the meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be September 9, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the Legion Building.
