Two people were injured in a crash on Hwy. 136 in Atchison County Tuesday morning, August 13, 2024. The accident occurred near the intersection of U.S. Highway 136 and Interstate 29, three miles east of Rock Port, Missouri, at around 9:40 a.m. A westbound 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 63-year-old Charles Voss of Odebolt, Iowa, was westbound on Hwy. 136 when he attempted to turn southbound onto I-29. His Jeep struck the front driver side of an eastbound 2017 GMC Terrain, driven by 43-year-old Damien Pritt of Rock Port. Pritt’s vehicle traveled off the south side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, then returned to the roadway before coming to rest on its wheels facing east and partially blocking the eastbound lane of 136. Voss’ Jeep came to rest on its wheels facing south, partially blocking the eastbound lane of 136.
A passenger in the GMC, 48-year-old Danyal Coon of Rock Port, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri. Another passenger in the Pritt vehicle, a 17-year-old female juvenile also from Rock Port, having suffered minor injuries, was also taken by private vehicle to Community Hospital-Fairfax. Both injured passengers were wearing seat belts.
Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene by Double M Towing. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper C.R. Kinman, who was assisted by CPL. K.L. Ebersold, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
