• Showing at The Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Under Tonto Rim” with Tim Holt, Jr., “The Connecticut Yankee” with Bing Crosby and Rhonda Fleming, and “Alias Nick Beal” with Ray Milland.
• Fairfax public schools opened Monday morning with a total enrollment of 228. The enrollment is slightly less than last year for various reasons, one of which is that some of the territory from which tuition students have come to Fairfax has been attached to other districts having high schools. The freshman class is the largest with 39 students and the smallest is the eighth grade with 10.
• Janice Gubser, eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Gubser, suffered a scalp wound and other injuries last Wednesday afternoon when she fell from a tractor and one of the large wheels passed over her. Janice and her siblings were returning home from Fairfax on the tractor. When the tractor changed gears, Janice lost her balance and fell off in front of the wheel, which then ran over her. She had no internal injuries and her head injury required eight stitches.
• The public sale of 125 saddle horses and ponies on the O. W. Long ranch south of Quitman, Missouri, on Monday drew a crowd estimated at 1,250 people with buyers from six states including Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, and Illinois. The top horse brought in $350.
• Frank Younger has sold his 60-acre farm southwest of Fairfax to Oscar Savage of Rock Port. T.J. Underwood has purchased the 160-acre farm known as the John N. Carter place one mile east and one and one-fourth miles south of Dotham. He purchased it from George T. Carter.

• The Atchison County Chapter of Sweet Adelines, Inc., a barbershop chorus, will resume practice Monday, September 9, at the Rock Port Lutheran Church. The chorus is interested in building membership and it is not necessary to read music to participate.
• Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Baker of Linn, Missouri, announce the engagement of their daughter, Aimee, to Mr. Lane Seymour of Fairfax. Miss Baker received her B.S. in Child and Family Development from the University of Missouri and is currently working on her teaching certificate. Mr. Seymour will receive his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University in December, at which time he will be commissioned into the United States Navy. A January wedding is planned.
• Richard Lee “Dick” Umbarger has entered the Air Force delayed enlistment program. He is scheduled to enter active duty and begin basic training within six months. Dick is a 1974 graduate of Fairfax High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben W. Umbarger.

• Roger and Lou Ann Pennel and family were selected as the Atchison County Farm Family for the Missouri State Fair. They were recognized at a dinner held in the director’s tent on the fairgrounds in Sedalia.
• The Missouri State Highway Department replaced drainage tubes on Highway 59 in Fairfax Thursday, August 26.
• Jim and Mary Brown of rural Fairfax are moving into town Labor Day weekend. They will be moving to the Oswald home on Broadway Street.
• Community for Kids Preschool and Child Care is officially opened. Eleven students are enrolled, including Torrie McGlothlin, Spencer Gibson, River Bradbury, Grant Hopkins, Taylor Cofer, Krynn Prater, Baylee Lewis, Aleesha Ball, Nicholas Simmons, Kelly Brown, and Brooklyn Morris.
