As summer comes to an end you will notice our types of meals start to change. We will start to add soups and take away salads. Cold plates will be a thing of the past, at least until next spring.  Our home delivered clients will receive “shelf stable meals” by the end of September. This is required by the state of Missouri as part of our contract with Young at Heart. These meals will ensure that in the event of an unforeseen closure due to weather or other circumstances, our clients still have the nutrition available to them. All home delivered clients will receive a letter in the next week regarding these meals with the option to opt out of receiving them.

The Rock Port Senior Center had a booth at the Fairfax Fair the weekend of August 16. The center appreciates all the volunteers and donors who participated in this fund-raising event. Without the volunteers, we couldn’t have done it.

As always, we appreciate all of our volunteers and those who donate to the center. We are always looking for volunteers to help deliver to our homebound clients. An added bonus is that volunteer hours are reimbursed by the state to the center, which helps feed the senior citizens in Rock Port. So, not only are you taking a hot meal to someone who may not otherwise get one that day, you are also helping fund that meal.

If you are interested in volunteering reach out to Maria at the center (660-744-5812) for more information. Each volunteer receives one free meal each time they volunteer. Just let the kitchen know if you will be taking a meal.

Old Fashioned Saturday Night is just around the corner. On September 21, look for the Rock Port Senior Center to be set up with baked goodies such as cookies, cakes, pies, and possibly some crafts and raffles. We look forward to seeing everyone out in the community having fun and making memories while supporting each other! If you would like to donate home baked goodies or maybe some crafts for us to sell, call Maria.

The center has tentatively scheduled resurfacing of the kitchen floor for Friday, October 11. We will be closed that day and send out meals to our home delivered clients as if it were a weekend or holiday. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The dining room floor resurfacing has not yet been scheduled. We will keep you updated.
