William Samuel “Sam” Creed, 79, of Fairfax, Missouri, passed away August 28, 2024, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born September 29, 1944, in Maryville, Missouri, to William Charles “Billy” and Emma Colleen (Andes) Creed. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1962. He married Linda Travis on June 7, 1964, in Mound City, Missouri. After graduating from the University of Missouri in 1966 he returned to farm with his father.
Sam was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, lifelong farmer, and community volunteer with numerous organizations. He was a founding member of the Fairfax Optimist Club, serving as president for several years. He was a 25-year board member of the Atchison County Rural Electric Cooperative. He was an active member of the Missouri Corn Growers Association where he was instrumental in new membership recruiting. He served on the National Corn Growers Association and U.S. Grains Council, traveling abroad championing the use of grains grown in the United States. Sam was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fairfax, serving as an elder for many years.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, William “Billy” and Emma Creed. His wife, Linda Kay Creed, died November 13, 2022.
Sam is survived by son, Mike; son, Tony and his wife, Linda; three grandchildren, Francis Creed, Tessa Creed, and Leo Schroeder; sister, Kay Cofer; and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held September 3, 2024, at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church. Burial followed the service at New Liberty Cemetery in Mound City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospital-Fairfax; Presbyterian Church of Fairfax; or Missouri Corn Foundation, 3118 Emerald Lane, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
