September 23, 1949
• S. A. Eastwood, a young man from Omaha, has taken charge of the new service station which was erected this past summer at the intersection of No. 275 and No. 4 west of Rock Port by Ginn & Son of Omaha.
• D. W. Johnson, Rock Port’s new superintendent of schools, has purchased from Erich Ernsting one of the latter’s properties in Sickler’s Addition.
• On Friday evening, September 9, 10 girls of the senior class of Rock Port High School gathered at the country home of Ruth Ann Zuck in Centennial community for a slumber party. Supper was served cafeteria style to Eva Mae Luhrs, Beatrice Straight, Anna Louise Ohrt, Raye Thompson, Delores Thompson, Ramona Fawcett, Marcia Gore, Phyllis Block, and Shirley Walker.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Karzan The Wolf Dog,” “El Paso” with John Wayne, and “Julia Misbehaves” with Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon.
September 19, 1974
• After 14 years of continued business and service to the people in Rock Port, Jones and Son Lumber Co. is closing its doors. Les Jones and Otis Melvin opened their own lumber business in 1960 and Jones bought out Melvin for full ownership in 1966.
• Albert Kerr is the new general manager of the Atchison County Co-op. Before coming to Atchison County, Kerr was the general manager for a cooperative in Minnesota. He and his wife and three children are living in the former Jack Scamman home at 605 Stanton Drive in Rock Port.
• Watson is celebrating its Centennial September 21. Watson was laid out and the land donated by Marion Good in 1869 following the abandonment of Sonora, Missouri, along the river front. The first erected building was brought from Sonora by James Odell. William Cowen built the first two-story frame house for use as a hotel.
• Students in the general carpentry class will be building a house on Parkeast Drive in Rock Port this school year. The boys work three hours a day on the house and it will take all year to finish.

• Lynn Roop has been named “Employee of the Month” at McDonald’s, Rock Port.
• The track at Blue Jay Stadium was recently resurfaced by Kawel Company.
• Golden Triangle Energy Cooperative, Inc. held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, September 13, 1999, in Craig, Missouri, at the site of the new ethanol plant.
• The Rock Port Telephone Cooperative, along with Rock Port Cablevision, has donated video equipment to Rock Port R-II School for a new video production class. The nine students will be able to create a video yearbook, or videos of sporting events and music activities.
• The Rock Port Blue Jays defeated the Hamburg Wildcats 47-0.
