PARADE AND PEP RALLY
Tiffanie and Stephen Gaines were the parade grand marshals.
Audrie Meyerkorth and Logan Ellis were the freshman attendants.
The Rock Port Little Twirlers marched together during the Homecoming parade.
The junior float featured Olympic wrestling with Norah Watkins refereeing Dylan Lair and Declan McRaven.
The football cheerleaders, Jacoby Driskell, Braylyn Wood, Claire Miller, and Raylynn Jenkins, escorted the football team in the parade.
The Rock Port Fire Department led the way with “Old Mack,” the 1947 fire truck driven by Chief Scott Jones. He was accompanied by his grandkids.
The Rock Port Marching Band got the crowd fired up during the pep rally. Anden Cohn is on the cymbals, Lily Wilroy is playing the bass, and Amelia Mason is playing the tambourine.
The junior high and high school cheerleaders started things off with a cheer at the pep rally. Payten Shrader, Leah Meyerkorth, and Kinleigh Daugherty were getting the football team fired up.

Blue Jays celebrate 2024 Homecoming victory over Tigers
The Rock Port Blue Jays hosted the DeKalb Tigers on Friday night for Homecoming 2024. DeKalb would receive the opening kick-off to start the game on their own 20 yard line. The first play from the line of scrimmage was a bad snap causing a fumble that was recovered by Ryder Herron, giving the Blue Jays great field position.
On the first play for the Jays, quarterback Corbyn Jakub would fake the handoff to running back Brock Holmes and take it to the house for six. The two point conversion was no good. With only 15 seconds off the game clock the Blue Jays would kick for the second time. DeKalb would continue with a bad snap over the quarterback’s head into the end zone resulting in a safety. With a short kick, Rock Port started their second drive on the 30 yard line of DeKalb. On a run and a pass to Holmes, the Jays moved the ball to the 19 yard line before Jakub would hit Kendan Melton-Davis on a crossing route to move the ball to the two yard line. Jakub punched it in and Holmes’ two point conversion was good, giving the Jays a 16 to 0 lead with 9:26 seconds left in the first quarter.
DeKalb would see some success moving the ball as they had a long pass and run to the Rock Port 25 yard line, but the Jays’ defense stepped up and held the Tigers, taking over on downs. Quarterback Corbyn Jakub would pick up a bad snap to scramble 55 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion was no good, making the score 22-0. Following the kick-off the Tigers would move the ball to the Rock Port two yard line before Tayden Cook would intercept the ball and bring it out to the 20 yard line. This would wrap up the first quarter with a score of 22-0 Rock Port.
The Jays moved the ball to the 23 yard line before Jakub would hit Holmes on a post route for six points. Jakub would hit Jack Meyerkorth on a slant for the two point conversion. The Jays now led 30-0 with 10:23 left in the second quarter. Three plays later, Meyerkorth would get his second interception, bringing the ball back to the DeKalb 36 yard line. With runs by Holmes and Jakub, the Jays moved the ball to the 20 yard line before Jakub would hit Meyerkorth on a post route for six points. Jakub’s two point conversion was good, making the score 38-0.
DeKalb showed some life as they moved the ball to across midfield before getting intercepted by Corbyn Jakub, who returned it out to the 35 yard line. Jakub would hit Brock Holmes three plays later for a touchdown. With the two point conversion by Jakub the Jays made it 54-0. The Jays would score one more time following a blocked punt by Ryder Herron and Gabe Gebhards to give the Jays a short field giving Corbyn Jakub one more chance to score.
With the final score of 54-0 the Blue Jays move to 4 and 0 on the season and face the South Holt Knights in Oregon Thursday night, September 26, at 7:00 p.m.
