During recent activity at the Tarkio College campus, Gloria Gibler and Muriel Sugar Tosh saw someone taking pictures in front of Rankin Hall in Tarkio, Missouri. Upon starting a conversation, they learned that the woman and her husband were recently retired and beginning a six week vacation and the town of Tarkio and Tarkio College were on their bucket list. She explained that her husband’s first name is in fact, Tarkio. He wanted to see his namesake. His parents were farmers back in Ohio and apparently used feed from The Tarkio Pelleting Company. His mother liked the word Tarkio so much that she chose “Tarkio” as her son’s name. This was quite a story so Gloria and Muriel invited the couple – Tarkio and Cindy Chester – into the museum. Gloria and Muriel also gave them some items to take back to Ohio to show their children. (Muriel Sugar Tosh photo)
