The East Atchison Wolves traveled to Mound City Friday night, September 20, to take on the Panthers.
EA received the ball to start the game. The Wolves moved the ball on the ground to the 23 yard line before quarterback Blake Simmons hit guard Gabe Harms on a seam pass up the middle for 18 yards setting up EA’s first touchdown. On the next play, Simmons would find the corner of the end zone as well as the two point conversion giving the Wolves the first points on the board. Mound City was quick to answer back with a long pass for six points and the two point conversion tying the game at 8’s.
On the next possession, EA was unable to get things going and punted the ball. Mound City took advantage, putting another six points on the board. Quarterback Blake Simmons would hit end Cameron Kephart on a 65 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 14-all. As the time ticked off the clock Mound City made a push from their two yard line, where the Wolves would cause a fumble. Gavyn Irvine would pick up the ball and return it 65 yards to set the Wolves up, but the play was brought back on an inadvertent whistle giving the Panthers the ball first and goal from the one yard line. Two plays later the Panthers would make it 20-14 as they went in to half.
Following halftime Mound City would add 22 more points to the Wolves’ 6, bringing the final score to 42-20 in favor of the Mound City Panthers.
