The Rock Port Board of Aldermen held a special meeting Wednesday, August 29, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. with Mayor Amy Thomas presiding. Board members present were Kelley Herron, Jeff Geib, Michael Graves, and Kim Brake. Also present were City Clerk Natasha Baruth and Karen Miller, public notary.

Mayor Thomas called the meeting to order.

The meeting agenda was approved.

The aldermen voted to approve the business license for A Step Above Dance Studio.

They also voted to approve the business license for River Rock Lanes and the liquor license pending state approval.

Utility clerk Terri McGuire provided documentation regarding an increase in electric service charges. The aldermen voted unanimously to approve the increase.

Jerri Dearmont provided documentation to be voted on and signed at the August 21 meeting. The aldermen voted to approve the E-Verify form. It was notarized by Karen Miller.

The aldermen also approved the Excessive Force Resolution, 24CFR, and 4 factor analysis.

The aldermen voted to approve the payment of the legal fees accrued during the CDBG from the board budget.

The Rock Port Board of Aldermen met Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. with Mayor Amy Thomas presiding. Board members present were Kelley Herron, Jeff Geib, and Kim Brake. Also present were City Clerk Natasha Baruth, Utility Clerk Terri McGuire, Superintendent Dennis Sherlock, and Police Chief Derek Morriss. Stephanie Dearmont was a visitor. Alderman Michael Graves entered at 6:03 p.m.

Mayor Thomas called the meeting to order.

The meeting agenda was amended to add opening silent bids on the 1990 Ford.

The minutes of the August 21, 2024, meeting were approved.

The aldermen also voted to approve the city consent agenda and the utility consent agenda

New Business

Graves brought a new grant, Conservation Fund Grant, to the board. A grant committee meeting was discussed and scheduled for October 2, 2024.

The Planning Commission brought re-zoning to the board. The following addresses were discussed to re-zone from rural to business. The aldermen voted to rezone the following addresses: 1409 W. Hwy. 136, 1310 W. Hwy. 136 (Truck Wash America), 1310 W. Hwy. 136 (Double M Towing), 1306 W. Hwy. 136, 1301 225th St. (Benefiles Towing), 1301 225th St. (Graybill Chrome), 1300 W. Hwy. 136, 1306 W. Hwy. 136, 105 Speedy’s Dr., 1303 W. Hwy. 136, 1301 W. Hwy. 136, 100 Independence Ave., 106 Independence Ave., 112 Independence Ave., 101 Speedy’s Dr,. 1200 W. Hwy. 136, 1201 W. Hwy. 136, 106 Liberty Lane, and 110 Liberty Lane.

Bill #1246 was read aloud by Herron and Thomas. The aldermen voted to approve Bill #1246.

Bill #1247 was read aloud by Herron and Thomas. The aldermen voted to approve Bill #1247.

Bill #1248 was read aloud by Herron and Thomas. The aldermen voted to approve Bill #1248.

A special event permit for fireworks at home football games was reviewed and approved.

Superintendent Sherlock gave an update on Whispering Wood Lane. Upon review and discussion with the county courthouse it was determined that this street is a private drive, and the owner is responsible for the upkeep.

Graves suggested a Trunk or Treat. Thomas will take the idea to the Tourism Board.

Two sealed bids were received and opened for the 1990 Ford truck. Bids were: Joe Roubinek, $2,250 and Orry Paris, $2,500. Graves moved to accept Paris’ bid. Herron seconded. All voted aye.
