Fall is upon us! The Senior Center has been decorated for the season with fall colors and flowers. In September the center sent out shelf stable meals for our home delivery clients. These are intended for emergency closure days to ensure the homebound seniors still have a nutritious option when we are unable to serve them. We appreciate Sharon and Don Meyer for volunteering to deliver these meals. The center also held its annual bake sale at Old Fashioned Saturday Night. It was a big success, thanks to everyone who donated baked goods and all who supported us at the event. We sold out! James Howard Thompson and Roy Wayne Esser donated the rustic home décor items for raffle. Rosita Stoner won the coat rack and Sandra Thompson won the corner shelf. We are very appreciative to all donors. Donations help us continue to serve the senior citizens in our community.
Floor resurfacing in the kitchen is scheduled for Friday, October 11. The Rock Port Senior Center will be closed that day and an extra meal will be sent to home deliveries. The dining room floor resurfacing will be scheduled at a later time.
It is almost time for our big holiday meals. Thanksgiving is usually our biggest meal of the year with people coming from surrounding states. We will be looking for volunteers to de-bone turkeys, make deviled eggs, and help serve on this day.
October is the last month for Bingo at the center until spring. We have enjoyed having everyone come in and join the fun. We appreciate all the donations for Bingo prizes that have come from the community. We look forward to starting it back up in March or April. Look for a new activity to take its place in the colder months.
As always, we appreciate all of our volunteers and those who donate to the center. We are always looking for volunteers to help deliver to our homebound clients. An added bonus is that volunteer hours are reimbursed by the state to the center, which helps feed the senior citizens in Rock Port. Not only are you taking a hot meal to someone who may not otherwise get one that day, you are also helping fund that meal. If you are interested in volunteering reach out to Maria at the center for more information. Each volunteer receives one free meal each time they volunteer. Just let the kitchen know (660-744-5812) if you will be taking a meal.
