• Showing at The Tarkio: “Silver Trails,” “G-Men,” “Pursued,” “Tulsa,” and “Man From Colorado.”
• “The Gypsies,” a colorful, fabulously costumed musical troupe whose unique brand of entertainment has been hailed as outstanding around the world, will appear at Tarkio College Wednesday. “The Gypsies” present a fun-packed, two-hour show filled with comedy, songs, and hauntingly beautiful gypsy airs.
• Members of the Tarkio Chapter of the Future Farmers of America spent Saturday in Kansas City attending the American Royal parade and the American Royal proper.
October 24, 1974
• Mrs. Maxine Herrick has purchased Torrey Pines Drive-In Restaurant in Tarkio from Roy and Leona Williams and she advertises that “We will continue with the same hours and strive to bring you the same good food and service that you have known.”
• Mrs. Carol Zembles of Tarkio displayed a 36-pound Big Mouth Buffalo which she caught in a farm pond near Tarkio on October 15. The huge fish is only four pounds shy of the state record of a 40-pounder. Mrs. Zembles said, “It is the biggest fish I have ever caught. It even broke my dip net.” Conservation Agent Richard Sperber said the huge fish is rare, especially for a buffalo to be in a farm pond as they are usually seen in rivers.
• Winners of the First National Bank’s Pumpkin Contest were: largest, Mike Jones; smallest, Scott McEnaney; saddest, Trinette and Valerie Struble; and funniest, Kelly Jones.
• The 1974 Fall Carnival will be held on the Tarkio College campus October 26 and will include over 30 booths of games of skill, craft and food sales, and displays. The Tarkio Western Store will give a new 10-speed bicycle to the winner of the six-mile cross country bike race.

• Brooke Vette is the newest stylist at Sharlyn’s Beauty Den in Tarkio, where she joins Sharlyn Chitwood and Kathy Athen. Brooke is a graduate of Tarkio High School and Vatterott College. She recently passed her state boards to become a licensed cosmetologist.
• Support Our Students (SOS) purchased a refrigerator from Place’s in Tarkio to store medication in the nurse’s office at Tarkio Elementary. SOS held a number of fundraisers to come up with the money needed.
• Jerene Rolf will be 85 years young October 27. An open house will be held in her honor Sunday, October 24, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro.
• Tarkio’s Community Awareness Team (C.A.T.) hosted a P.U.N.T. contest Friday, October 8, during half time of the varsity football game. Winners were Ed Defenbaugh of Tarkio, Drew Noblitt of Gallatin, Missouri, and Zach Schebaum of Tarkio.
• The Main Street Christmas Committee is busy with preparations. A town Christmas tree was planted on the corner of 4th and Main streets in Tarkio. The 10-12 year-old tree came from Dr. Fred Ashler of Hamburg, Iowa. Dr. Ashler, father of Barb Rolf, has been an avid tree planter for close to 20 years and has a tree farm.
