October 21, 1949
• Rock Port lost to the Tarkio Indians for the first time in four years in high school football action. Visitors were impressed with the new and improved Pierce-Rupe Field in Rock Port.
• The Rock Port Homecoming King is Bill Fischer and Queen is Beatrice Straight.
• Rural Route No. 1 was extended from the corner of Main and Calhoun streets to the M.H. Scamman corner and return. The extension adds nine families and makes a total of 58.775 miles, which is believed to be the longest mail route in Atchison County.
• With the arrival of the advance crew of workmen from Tulsa, Oklahoma, the initial step was taken in the construction of about 400 miles of new lines to serve some 900 to 1,000 farms with power and light. This move is the biggest single undertaking the Atchison-Holt Cooperative has begun since its organization 10 years ago.
October 17, 1974
• Stanton Farms is advertising custom grain drying now in operation in Rock Port across from the city light plant. Stanton Grain Co. is advertising grain storage available now at the Phelps City Elevator.
• New faces at Rock Port R-II this year are Larry, Bob, and Peggy Kennell, Denise Sebek, Sherri Bermingham, Jimmie William Kirk, Larry Lewis, Kim Edmonds, and Janet Betts.
• Officers investigated an attempted burglary at Hy-Vee Store in Tarkio October 8. Entrance to the store was gained by cutting through a large cooler. The only attempted theft was the safe being opened by peeling the face off the door and taking the insides out, but the safe was empty.
• The ambulance service operated by the Fairfax hospital for the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District has been on 19 runs so far this month. The ambulance has made 16 runs in Atchison County and three in Holt County.
• A Rock Port man was taken to the Fairfax hospital for treatment after his vehicle rammed a parking meter and two store fronts at 3:00 a.m. October 6. He was traveling down Main Street when he stepped on the accelerator and lost control, hitting a parking meter and then the partition between the laundromat and King’s Auto Parts.

• Rock Port High School golfer Anne Reynolds qualified for state golf with a score of 98 at the district tournament at Fairview Golf Course in St. Joseph October 8.
• Jim Hughes is still hard at work after 35 years of service. Former Mayor Gene Bunn hired Jimmy. He has held every position at the Municipal Utilities, has been city code inspector, a carpenter in earnest for a couple of years, and an all-around troubleshooter.
• Rock Port Rotary 5K Run/Walk winners of the event held on the afternoon of Old Fashioned Saturday Night were Carolyn LeFever (overall woman), Wendell Horst (overall man), and Raymond Underwood (winner of the 55 and over).
• Thanks to today’s modern technology, Audley Jackson tracked down his Navy buddy Paul Corder, who he hasn’t seen for 52 years, on the internet. They served together in the Aleutian Islands from 1946-47 and met again at Pearl Harbor in 1947.
• Amy Zimmerman and Steven Proctor were crowned Rock Port High School Homecoming Queen and King.
