• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Black Arrow,” “Louisiana,” “Lost Horizon,” “Look For The Silver Lining,” and “Angel On The Amazon.”
• “See the new great American one-row corn picker with the stalk walker – Massey-Harris self-propelled pickers – now on hand at the Lawson Motor Co.”
• An old fashioned country auction with pies, cakes, chickens, and homemade candies will be held Wednesday, November 2, following a dance in the town hall in Westboro, Missouri, sponsored by the Morning Sun Club. The Booster Band will provide the music.
• Mrs. Silas E. Summers’ recent publications include: “Our First Chewing Gum,” published October 1 in the St. Joseph News-Press; “How Peanuts Came To America,” October 15 News-Press; and “Why Our Streets Are On Two Levels,” October 15 Pioneer for Boys.
• A move to improve Tarkio’s downtown appearance is being co-sponsored by the Booster Club and Tarkio merchants with a Kansas City firm. Waste paper disposal units have been installed at the corners of the business district. Merchants will have advertising painted on the sides.
• Residents of the Tarkio area shivered Wednesday morning as the mercury dropped to the season’s low mark of 23.9 degrees at 5:27. The high for the week was 67.
• Funeral services were held for Miss Clara Jessie Marlin, 81, Monday morning at Davis Funeral Home. From 1920 to 1942, Miss Marlin served as librarian of Tarkio College.
October 31, 1974
• Charles Hanna presented a key to the facilities at the Gould Peterson Memorial Airport to Tarkio Mayor Roy McIntosh at the dedication Sunday. The airport runways and facilities have been extended and the Atchison County Flying Association has constructed the office and waiting room building.
• Tarkio College crowned George Henry as king and Elaine Henderson as queen.
• The Rev. Charles W. Caldwell of Blue Springs, Missouri, will be preaching at the Tarkio and Westboro United Methodist Churches on Sunday and will deliver one of Rev. John Wesley’s sermons in costume. Rev. Wesley was the founder of Methodism. He was born in 1703 and died in 1791.
• Tarkio R-I held a yard sale that netted approximately $160. A few hundred books that didn’t sell were given to Mrs. Horace Underwood, who will send the books to the needy in Korea.

• The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the Tarkio Housing Authority a $52,000 Public Housing Modernization Grant.
• Surveys sent out to Tarkio Elementary students have returned showing there is a need for breakfast to be served at the school. Tarkio R-I Superintendent Mike Mendon said that the breakfast program would start at the beginning of the second semester.
• Approximately 140 people attended the Tarkio Community Gospel Sing held October 23, raising $320 for the Community Building air conditioner fund.
