The Tarkio FFA members were able to visit the University of Illinois Agricultural Department in Urbana, which houses the Morrow Plots, America’s oldest experimental field established in 1876.

Attending the 97th annual National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, were Rock Port FFA Members Lilly Pankau, Alley Sharpless, Landrey Kelly, Corbin Wallace, and Braidyn Buckner.

 

During the event, Braidyn Buckner earned the Top Tech Challenge Best Time of the Day by taking a sprayer pump apart and putting it back together in 32.95 seconds!

The Fairfax and Jefferson FFA members attending the National FFA Convention stopped at Reproductive Specialty Group (RSG), where they learned about reproduction of small ruminants and embryo transfer.

Dr. Temple Grandin’s speech was one of the highlights of the 97th annual National FFA Convention.

 

The Fairfax, Tarkio and Rock Port High School FFA Chapters traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to attend the 97th National FFA Convention October 22-26, 2024. Students attended convention sessions, leadership workshops, the career and college fair, and the convention expo. Some of the highlights of the convention included motivational comedian Kevin Wanzer and Dr. Temple Grandin, animal agriculturalist and professor of animal science at Colorado State University.

Tarkio’s Quin Staten and Fairfax’s Lexi Brown also performed at the convention and Indianapolis Artsgarden as part of the National FFA Chorus.

While on the trip, Tarkio and Rock Port FFA members also were able to take part in tours of the following places: Mark Twain Museum, Burrus Seeds, University of Illinois Agricultural Department, Beasley’s Orchard, ET Sprayers, and Ozark Fisheries. Making the trip from Tarkio were Quin Staten, Kamryn Brown, Bailey Wennihan, Brody Wennihan, Jax Peregrine, Kaiden Nelson, Dalton Hogue, Ben Rolf, Finn Hurst, and Emily Smith. Visiting from Rock Port were Lilly Pankau, Alley Sharpless, Landrey Kelly, Braidyn Buckner, and Corbin Wallace.

The Fairfax members traveled with Jefferson FFA members and stopped at the Game Show Battle Rooms on their trip. They also enjoyed hearing from the employees and researchers at LabCorp and taking a tour at Reproductive Specialty Group, where they learned about reproduction of small ruminants and embryo transfer. The group wrapped up their travels with a trip to Dull Tree Farm for some autumn pumpkin patch fun.
