The City of Fairfax Board of Aldermen held a regular meeting November 19, 2024.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Ryan Kingery at 6:05 p.m. Roll was taken. Those in attendance were: Tristan Ray, Tabitha Wintz, and Debra Wyatt, aldermen; Christy Stevens, City Clerk; John Brown, Water Superintendent; Terry Miller, City Treasurer; and Angela Morgan, resident.

The tentative agenda was approved.

Angela Morgan was present to sit through the meeting and observe as a new Fairfax resident.

The aldermen approved the minutes of the regular meeting October 23, 2024, and accounts payable.

New Business

City Hall received an email informing the city they still have ARP money that needs to be accounted for before December 31, 2024. After a short discussion the aldermen voted unanimously to spend the remaining money available on the new water meters.

A new board member is needed for the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments to represent the City of Fairfax. It needs to be a non-elected official. The meetings are held once a quarter, usually a Thursday night in Maryville. If anyone is interested or has any questions call City Hall at 660-686-3520.

The 2025 budget was presented to the council for their review. After a few questions and short discussion, the aldermen voted unanimously to approve the 2025 budget.

Staff Reports

Terry Miller, City Treasurer, submitted that all accounts are in balance.

Christy Stevens, City Clerk, presented the council with the renewal of the Star Insurance policy for 2025. The policy no longer covers cyber liability and had a slight increase from last year. Christy will look into finding cyber liability somewhere else. The aldermen voted unanimously to approve the 2025 Star Insurance policy.

Election filing opens December 10 for mayor and two alderman-at-large positions. Filing packets can be picked up at City Hall.

One of the computers at city hall needs an upgrade. A quote was given for RAM upgrade or a new computer set-up. After a short discussion the aldermen voted unanimously to get a new computer.

John Brown, Water Superintendent, reported that the meters, rings, and radios for the new water meters have been delivered. They are still waiting for the lids and he hopes to have the meters installed by the end of the year.

He also reported that the riser on South Sly Street should be installed by the end of the week.

The yearly cost for GIS mapping program is going up. John is looking into a different alternative for mapping and will report back.
