• Specials at B.P. Hunter Stores in Fairfax include: ties, $1 to $2; slippers, $2.98; warm jackets, $8.50 and up; handkerchiefs, 10¢ to $1; candy orange slices, 19¢ per pound; Chase cherry chocolates, 53¢ per box; and English walnuts, 39¢ per pound.

• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Geronimo” and “Two Guys from Texas” with Dennis Morgan and Jack Carson.

• The Fairfax basketball teams entered the invitational outdoor basketball tournament which was held last week by Forest City High School. Fairfax won the event, defeating Oregon 33-19, Mound City 21-18, and New Point 36-27. The Fairfax team was presented with the championship trophy.

• Phil Hopkins, who has operated a grocery store under the name of Hopkins’ Grocery in the former Schooler grocery location, announced that he has sold his grocery stock to Dale Wake. Mr. Wake will continue the business and offer a complete line of groceries, meats, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

• Mr. and Mrs. Don Olson will move to Maryville the first week of December where Mr. Olson will be general manager of the Maryville Truck & Tractor Company. R.N. Palmer, now with the Maryville Truck & Tractor Company, will be transferred to Fairfax to succeed Mr. Olson as the manager of the Craven Implement Company.

• J.E. “Pat” Nottingham died at the Fairfax Community Hospital Sunday night. Born James Edward Nottingham in Illinois, Pat came to the Fairfax community some 35 years ago and worked as a farmer for several years before taking the job as caretaker for Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, which he held for 20 years.

December 5, 1974

• Vernon Logsdon hit the jackpot on grandchildren last week when he became grandpa three times in a 12-hour period. Daughter Jane Smith started off the stork express with the birth of twins (boy and girl) on Thanksgiving Day at 3:45 p.m. in Bellwood, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kania had a daughter at 3:45 a.m. on November 30, also in Bellwood.

• The Christmas season arrived in northwest Missouri with a bang the day following Thanksgiving. Snow fell on holiday decorations in the downtown area, creating a Christmas scene. Frosty was at work Monday night as he painted every bush and twig and a heavy fog settled over the countryside until near noon. Temperatures dropped to about 10 above.

December 2, 1999

• The Fairfax Optimists sponsored the annual Hoop Shoot on Saturday, November 20, at the Fairfax R-3 School. Winners were Chase Ilsley, Whitney Harrington, Leslie Smith, Michael Graves, Mark Ball, and Bethany Graves. The winners will advance to the Hoop Shoot at Bearcat Arena at Northwest Missouri State University.

• The United Methodist Church held its over 60 Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday, November 24, at the Methodist Church in Fairfax. Around 100 people attended the dinner.

• Community for Kids Preschool students celebrated Thanksgiving by making recipes for cooking a turkey. Brooklynn Morris said, “First, you have to catch the turkey in the woods. Take it home and stuff it with salt and eggs. Put more salt on top. Cook the turkey for three minutes on nine degrees. When you take it out it turns into chicken. Eat it with Taco Bell chips.”
